About BELMONDO RISTORANTE
Italian cooking is so much a part of our modern food world that we sometimes loose track of its roots.
Belmondo Ristorante, set in a small strip of Holden Hill shops, is an out-and-out south Italian expression of homey, sunshiney Calabrian food and hospitality. It seems stuck in the middle of nowhere for anyone looking from the west and south of the city, but there's a huge Italian population in surrounding suburbs who are regulars. The restaurant has a sense of knowing them and its culinary roots: owner Chris Kekes has been in the Italian restaurant game for 15 years, working at venues including Don Giovanni's, La Trattoria and Zambracas before buying Belmondo a decade ago, selling it, taking on Amarino Cafe in Norwood and then, six months ago, buying back Belmondo.
